August 2010

Ahhh!

It's not easy being a fairy princess.

Adele at the county fair on the bungee-trampoline things.  She even did a flip!

On the ride at Heritage Square.  She didn't like it too much once it started!

With Jeff on the little roller coaster at Heritage Square.  See how happy she is?  That's because it isn't moving.  She didn't like it so much once it started!

The Wiggles!!!

The Wiggles coming onstage

We took Adele to see the Wiggles in early August.  If you don't know who the Wiggles are, they are a musical group for kids from Australia.   Adele loves the Wiggles and knows most of their songs.
Waiting for the show to start
Adele and a little girl, Lily, that she met in the aisle

One of the characters on the Wiggles show is a friendly pirate.  Lily's dad dressed up like a pirate for the show and Adele loved it and him.
What Wiggles blogpost would be complete with video?!

Adele and Grandma

I know I already posted something similar to this before, but I found a better example of how Adele looks like my mom (picture on the left) as a toddler.  Adele's picture was taken last Christmas.

Utah Camping Trip

The weekend after Jeff''s parents left, we packed up everything we owned and went to Utah for the annual family camping trip. The drive over went better than expected; in fact, we arrived a day early. We slept in a tent, but thankfully, my parents' fifth-wheel trailer was there too.

Here's lunch at our campsite

Looking from our campsite to my aunt's campsite next door

Wading in the stream. Jack is on my back
The boys really got into whittling this year

Jack Camping

Jack did great camping this year, but it was a bit tough too. He's really crawling and standing up, so he was frustrated by not being able to move around like he wanted. We brought along this giant tarp to give him some freedom, which worked really well for him and as a staging area to change wet clothes, etc. too.

Jack's appetite never waned. He didn't let the cold....

or hot temperatures slow him down whatsoever!

He let everybody hold him, which was nice for us! He loves his pacifier!
He especially loved laying on the couch in grandma's trailer and looking out at the trees.

Adele Camping

Adele loves everything about the outdoors, especially dirt and water. She loves camping. She loves getting dirty, she loves being around everyone, and she loved sleeping in her sleeping bag in the tent. Her only downfall is that she won't stop long enough to eat. The combination of heat, not eating, and excessive playing turned her into human wreckage on this trip more than once. However, I don't think it bothered her as much as it did us!

Jeff gave her a bath in one of our rubbermaid containers. Here she's "sharing" her Chinese longhorn beetle in her bug viewer with my aunt and uncle...
...and with Jack.

Looks like it was time to go home!

A Day out with Grandma and Grandpa

We packed up what seemed like everything we owned and a big cooler of food and headed to Nederland to ride the Carousel of Happiness. That's what it's called, really! It just opened a couple of months ago. Adele wasn't sure about it all at first, but by the end she liked the moose she was riding on. I rode the pig.

We followed up the carousel ride with a picnic at the park by Boulder Creek. In typical Nederland fashion, it was pretty windy in the picnic enclosure, so we had to literally hold on to our hats.

Grandparents!

Jeff's parents came to visit over the Fourth of July weekend. It was great to see them and the kids loved spending time with them. Adele was very sad when they had to go home.

June 2010

Doesn't it look like Adele and I are getting ready for a big expedition? I think that in reality we (I) had big plans, but we only made it to the swing set!

Which brings me to............our new swing set. We got it for free from Craigslist last fall. Jeff set it up in early June and it's been fun. We already owned the toddler swing and I picked up a new swing at a flea market. I love these old, steel swing sets. No wood = no maintenance.

That's Carter up in that tree. He spent the night out there and most of the next day before Jeff talked him down. That picture was taken from the deck. He was at least 25 ft up.

There's Jack, trying out the skateboard.
This was our big project in May and June. We cleared out most of the basement, insulated the ceiling for our radiant heat, finished a bunch of framing, and then had the rest of the drywall hung and finished. It was monumental. We used cotton insulation for better sound dampening, but it is really hard to cut. We already have a bunch of this insulation in the walls upstairs to help with sound, so we knew how hard it is to work with. After a quick search on the internet, Jeff came up with a plan to use a masonry blade on the table saw, which worked like a dream.

I forgot to take a picture of the finished product before our stuff took over again.
